Abstract:
Recently there is sudden surge in the criminal cases against women in Pakistan and also around
the world. Women are facing the cases involving Sexual Harassment and Sexual Abuse. More than
200 million women around the world and 51,000 women in Pakistan faced the sexual assault from
2011 to 2017.
The motivation behind this project was the recent motorway rape incident and brutality faced by
the victim. Moreover, the rise in such events in recent years and having no proper safety gadgets
in above mentioned scenarios led to the birth of this idea. And according to a survey, crimes against
women have increased by 200% in Pakistan during January-March. Our Objective is to help
females escape assault and make them feel safer and empowered.
This project aims at designing a smart ring against sexual harassment to significantly reduce the
probability of occurrence of events involving sexual abuse.
The set up includes a smart ring along with Bluetooth module connected to a mobile application
and a server side. The ring contains a button that will trigger the emergency text service for help
and a text containing victim’s location will be sent to emergency contacts right away. The mobile
application will also record the video to gather some evidence and help victim at later stages while
fighting the case if such event does happen. The ring is chosen as gadget of choice so that it is easy
to use and can be triggered with one hand only. In case the person is engaged with the assaulter.
The mobile application will also provide the legal support handbook and it also contains the
emergency contacts of different Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations.
