With a growing awareness of quality of life, health monitoring instruments with solid domestic
algorithms are becoming more and more necessary. Health monitoring technologies allow for realtime study of a user's health state, providing long-term healthcare assistance and shortening
hospitalization time. Elderly people are affected by many diseases because of their weak immune
system, one of the disorders that they most often face is the gait disorder. This might occur due to
a number of reasons. But it is curable, if monitored regularly and diagnosed at a very early stage.
Since standard optical diagnostic and patient evaluation instruments are expensive and immobile,
we are utilizing a camera-based system, which provides a cost-effective alternative ideal for home
and clinic usage. This system will be a tele-health system that can be simply implemented in
patients' homes, directly in the entry hallway. We began by using a Microsoft Kinect V2 camera
for this purpose. But we went onto a webcam afterwards because it was considerably cheaper than
Kinect V2. The system will be easy to use both for the patient and the doctor. The patient will be
able to log their daily gait and monitor for fall detection and other gait disorders by considering
the pelvic gait parameters produced by the system. This would reduce the frequent visit of the
patient to the hospital and would make it easier for the doctor to analyze the symptoms of the
patients by looking at the produced gait parameters. |
