Abstract:
Animation gives an insight on what is being visually presented. The human mind is prone to
understand what is being taught through animation more effectively as the research has shown.
People effortlessly understand scientific concepts and internal mechanisms of machines in
animated forms. This paper presents software which will animate the whole process of
recoil/counter recoil action along with display of internal movement of piston/rods and flow of
oil to clearly depict the series of mechanical processes taking place inside of the four given
artillery guns. The guns which will be modeled and implemented in this software are (a) 130 mm
Gun M-46, (b) 122 mm Howitzer, (c) 122 mm Howitzer D-30, (d) 125 mm Tank Gun Al Khalid.
Ability to visualize the internal working of equipment will enable technician/user to understand
the underlying mechanism as well as diagnose possible faults in the system. There are many
constraints in the understanding of recoil mechanism of these guns such as limited time, limited
tools, and a very tiresome process of assembly/disassembly. So, through this software, it
becomes easy to understand these processes by watching the animation of the recoil operation
and have insight of the guns by going through the 3D models.
