Abstract:
The growth of population over the years and lack of supervision over solid
waste management has led to serious environmental impacts that cannot be
reversed. Open disposal of household waste in to streets, open lands and road
sides poses public health risks. In Pakistan, organic waste holds highest
percentage in solid waste composition. Untreated organic waste disposal
particularly, the kitchen waste results in toxic methane gas emission which is
a stronger greenhouse gas than CO2. Moreover, it contaminates the
environment producing unhygienic living standard for the public. Kitchen
waste recycling domestically can play a vital part in sustaining healthy
environment in communities. For this purpose, different experiments,
observations and user behaviors regarding waste disposal were documented.
Furthermore, the outcome of these findings resulted in producing an effective
solution that can help and start the kitchen waste recycling process in
households hence, eliminating the kitchen waste disposal in the environment.
Rebin is an indoor kitchen waste bin which manages and collects kitchen
waste hygienically with additional features which initiates the waste recycling
process. It also promotes organic and inorganic waste segregation in
households.
