Abstract:
People who are blind by birth or acquired total blindness in any stage of their life
are struggling by facing problems on daily basis. One of the major difficulties they
are facing is about mobility in their workspaces. They rely on different sources like
help by another person or white canes. But there are some areas in which they are
still encountering difficulties like relocation, identifying their surroundings and
reaching a desired place. Unfortunately, they are still lacking a trustful source that
can instill self-confidence in them to tackle these hurdles while moving around.
Hence, they lack opportunities to show their full potential. The research in this
project is conducted to learn how blind people move around in their workspace,
what problems they face and how they, with the help of other senses, tackle such
issues and lastly what they find most difficult in the whole scenario. A small effort is
undertaken to provide the people who are blind with an opportunity for an
experience that can motivate/encourage them to work and involve them in the
activities like a normal person in an office environment. The research is done by
studying the socio-demographic factors, understanding the user behavior to
interact and learning of new abilities and skills. The main aim of the research is
to develop/built a product for the blind people, which will prove to be a constant
support to them by giving, live feedback in audio form by tracking their position in
their work space.
