dc.description.abstract My inspiration for the project derived from thinking about problems in daily life. For me, it was living with Type 1 diabetes (insulin dependent) as majority of the people in my life had it, I wanted to create a product that made living with diabetes easier. I believe it is a constant struggle especially for young patients. With many things changing it difficult to maintain good control constantly, forgetting to take insulin or fluctuating glucose levels can create serious health implications. To realize high-accuracy, low-cost and continuous glucose monitoring, Glucosist acts as a personal health companion for children aged -10 years, assisting the user on multiple levels. It is a digital-physical health companion designed to help kids with type 1 diabetes take control over their health. Using minimal data input, Glucosist collects information from wrist band and glucose sensor about exercise and blood sugar, two crucial factors in keeping type 1 kids happy and healthy. If these health metrics are positive, Health companion will express happiness and feel healthy. If not, it will feel sick, expressing negative emotion. In this way, the Health companion is a reflection of the child's health. By taking care of their Health companion, children learn to take care of themselves. en_US
