Abstract:
People working in offices often lose interest in their work after sometime especially desk based workers
which decreases their work productivity. These workers then try to find a distraction or unintentionally get
distracted from their work. The root cause ofwhich is usually thought to be excessive focus during work
which is wrongly thought to be necessary to get more work done. Excessive focus exhausts the brain circuits.
A research was conducted between a group of30 individuals, ranging from the age of 21 to 35 years, which
included design students and professional designers. Surveys and direct interviews were conducted to see
what people usually do during such situations. The findings from the research interviews and surveys
concluded that the target group usually uses any kind of distraction they can afford to get away from their
work for some time. This behavior was then studied under some ofthe professional researches by Dr. Sirini
Pillay and Jerome Singer which showed that human brain can work optimally when it toggles between
focus and unfocus and any kind ofdistraction that the designer uses is a tool to unfocus which help his mind
to unwind all his thoughts. PCD is a key tool for relieving stress and stimulating creativity thus enhancing
the right focus during work and keeps our mind from wandering away in the wrong direction, which can
be activated by any low-key activity. The results suggested the need for a product that could help a person
to tap into PCD and also serve as a helpful distraction that helps him regain focus while simultaneously
inspiring him so that his productivity enhances which is done through an electromagnet based desktop
puzzle that is time controlled which means that it turns off after the set time so that the user can take a short
break according to the time that he needs off and not get completely distracted. (Pillay,2017) (Singer, 2013)
