dc.description.abstract In Pakistan, like many other developing countries, floods are the recurrent and damaging phenomenon. Amongst these damaging floods, the recurrent flood of 2010 is considered to be one of the rare calibers. Pakistan witnessed an exceptional high rainfall in July and August of 2010, extending till the month of September. This rainfall proved to be one of the major contributing factors that led the country to be a victim of devastating flood in the midst of the year. The floods 2010 have been declared as the worst since 1929 for its extensive inundation and devastations across the country. Floods 2010 stretched to an area of 100,000 square km, which comprise of 78 districts of Pakistan. This natural hazard leading to an unforgettable disaster in the history of Pakistan has affected almost one tenth population of the country. The number of the affected population is more than 20 million along with almost two thousand reported deaths. Thousands of acres of standing crops and cultivable lands have been destroyed. This project will help in suggesting measures to avoid the failure of buildings especially housing in the flood affected areas in future. For this purpose we have chosen Nowshera and Charsadda to be analyzed in detail, with the help of this analysis the most common cause of the failures will be found out and the preventive measures will be sought. Data acquired from the survey of these districts was analyzed and some recommendations were deduced in order to find some suitable solution of the failure of buildings. The possible solutions are discussed and the economic feasibility is focused upon in order to put forward the most feasible and practical solution. en_US
