Architecture is not only about creating enclosures to fulfill the functional needs
of a program, it's about designing spaces which are capable of creating an
enduring impact on its user beyond just the physical use of building. This thesis
intends to explore how the intangible and sensory qualities of a material can be
harnessed to design experiential architectural spaces that leave a memorable
impact on human perception. A memory that links the visitor with the place.
In this regard, an attempt is made to explore the timeless, delicate and
distinctive qualities of local stone that was once used in monumental structures
signifying the glory of the region and held a distinctive character of its own.
The site chosen is in District of Chakwal, located on the Plateaus of Potohar in
North Punjab. Chakwal has been blessed with rich history, splendid natural
environs, and captivating rural landscapes. These landscapes are promoting
adventure activities like hunting, fishing, trekking, water sports and camping
etc. and are attracting visitors from around the world.
Seeing this increasing popularity of Chakwal, it has been declared as 'Model
District for tourism' which has put forth the need of multiple recreational
and hospitality projects that will help promote the identity of the region.
The architectural typology chosen is a resort which will provide facilities of
hotel rooms, spa, restaurant and other recreational activities. The idea is to
design the facility in such a way that it blends in with context and creates a
memorable and unique experience for the visitors which is in conformity with
the local culture, historical context, social structure of the region. |
