Abstract:
peed bumps are commonly employed for the purpose of controlling traffic speed, and hence
ensuring safety measures for pedestrians. The purpose of this project is to generate electrical power
ranging up to several hundred watts by utilizing a novel speed bump, when a vehicle passes
through it. The proposed idea is to use a moveable speed bump structure that has two-degree
freedom of motion i.e. up and down vertically. This motion mechanism will be of pulsating kind.
This report will focus on the validation and viability of the novel design along with the benefits of
moveable structure over traditional speed bump. We will be using mathematical modeling and
simulated results for this purpose. An estimated peak of 100-130 Watts is expected to be extracted
when a standard size car passes over the bump at a speed as low as 2 km/h. Hence the objective of
a speed bump will be achieved along with the extraction of regenerative energy
