Since 2005, the Pakistani cinema has witnessed extraordinary growth and cultivated a mass film-watching culture,
attracting creatives and transforming films into major cultural and economic exports. However, despite its
popularity and growth, the industry still suffers due to a poor operational and business infrastructure and an
absence of an innovative and technologically advanced pre- and post-production ecosystem. This thesis aims to fill
that gap by creating an integrated Film City Center - a one stop platform for the pre-production, production and
post-production needs for film making, built through the incorporation of sustainable design strategies. Itwill also
bridge the gap between the entertainment industry and aspiring content creators while transforming the social
and community fabric within and around the Film city Center by making the process of filmmaking and the
celebrity culture more accessible to the public. This thesis will also include glass, concrete and steel as sustainable
eco-friendly construction materials, modular and flexible interior spaces. This thesis also seeks to discuss a new
typology of film and architecture because of the lack ofwork done on film cities, globally and nationally, in this
typology of architecture. |
