In today's world, technology is booming, and people are resorting to digitals mediums
for almost all aspects, be it to find services or get some recreation. Digital is not only what
meets the eye, but also what pleases the eye. Initially the terminology of 'artist' only applied
to those who created physical pieces of art- a form of expression for them. But with the world
evolving every day, new professions and fields have marked their places in this evolving
platform of technology. Today, digital art creators, illustrators, game designers, art directors,
photographers, videographers, cinematographer are all categorized as artists. However, only
the previous concept of artist exists when we collectively talk about art and their creators.
This not only exists in our subconsciousness, but also extends to our built environment.
Exhibitions, museums, displays; all majorly cater to the physical form of art. While digital
artists continue to be bound by the barrier between the physical and virtual world. How can
artists of a virtual universe be a part of the physical world? Many of the commodities of
today's life are only accessible through digital platforms- and it's important to realize the
reason for this shifting trend to the digital world. It's accessible, faster, and knowledgeable.
Alone in the US, the majority (66%) of artist jobs with an annual salary of over $60k are
related to digital art and come from technology sectors. The targeted user base is children
ranging from age 13 and above - the experimental years. The project aims to understand the effect of spaces to understand the thriving of a
profession. Can a solution to the growing disparity between both art mediums be somehow
bridged through the creation of a space which commemorates these professions in a place
which is not actively hostile towards them, but where the potential exists but opportunities
don't? And how actively can this play a role in uniting the virtual and real world, artists and
non- artists, students and professionals. Moreover, how can this Space of lnterstitiality
symbolize itself as a dialogue of transformation in this era of digitalization? |
