dc.description.abstract Apprenticeship, an age-old method, has served as a foundational tool for skills development throughout history. Yet, over time, institutionalization has overshadowed its essence. Today's focus on obtaining degrees often overshadows the significance of practical skills, leading to the replication of formulaic courses. In the realm of architecture, the pursuit of practical knowledge necessitates separate internships, demanding additional effort and time. Apprenticeship, in its truest sense, bridges the gap between work and education, advocating for learning while working, thereby dismantling the constraints imposed by skill institutionalization. Inspired by the innovative ethos of the MIT Media Lab, this thesis embarks on a visionary mission - the creation of an Artist Retreat and Educational Centre named "SANCTUM SANCTORUM." This space shall serve as a nexus of education and culture, a dynamic platform fostering essential training for mentees while serving as an exploratory haven for mentors. It aims to provide immersive, hands-on experience under the guidance of esteemed artists. The chosen site in Khanpur, strategically located near Islamabad, offers easy access and essential services. Nestled along a waterbody, the site boasts remarkable contours and breathtaking vistas, rendering it ideal for artistic exploration and instruction. The serene surroundings will provide an ideal backdrop for the learning journey. The centre's core focus revolves around nurturing a diverse pool of skills and knowledge, rooted in the practical execution of techniques and methodologies. By incorporating a myriad of skills from various masters, the centre ensures the perpetuation of traditional crafts while also facilitating the exploration of innovative approaches, backed by research into novel materials and their integration into established techniques. Leveraging Artificial Intelligence, the centre envisions producing holograms, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) experiences, potentially catapulting local artists onto the global stage. These tools, acting as virtual mentors, not only supplement absent mentors but also foster international recognition, propelling local artisans towards international opportunities. Beyond preserving cultural heritage, the centre is designed to foster community engagement through recreational spaces, knowledge repositories, museums, and galleries. It will be a haven for performances and exhibitions, nurturing community development and interaction. The project employs diverse research methodologies to craft a design that seamlessly integrates Artificial Intelligence with practical skills. Its ultimate goal lies in the preservation and effective transmission of knowledge to students through various guidance mechanisms and learning tools. As the project's essence is a declaration in itself, the architectural form mirrors this sentiment, drawing inspiration from Traditional Techniques and Forms. In essence, the proposed "SANCTUM SANCTORUM" breathes life into the concept of apprenticeship, resurrecting its authentic spirit while embracing modem technological marvels. It stands as a beacon of skill preservation, a testament to dynamic education, and a celebration of the symbiotic relationship between tradition and innovation. en_US
