HYBRIDIZATION OF TYPOLOGY BASED ON ERGONOMICS (MODULAR GERIATRIC DWELLING)

Abstract

The Elderly health care centre for the accommodation of old age belonging from the region that is accessible from the site is to be constructed. The problem that is to be addressed is the lack of safety anddesign supportive techniques that are the basic requirement of the facility of the targeted group. The ergonomics which is forms the foundation of the facility must be followed for creating a habitable zone for he users. The users will be classified into four categories based on their physical condition stage, for every different group different types of modular units will be designed based on the ergonomics. Apart from ergonomics and safety issues the formation of link between the community and the elderly group in which the dispersion of knowledge from one age group to another can take place will form as a major primary objective of the project. The formation of activities that helps in providing living environment for the elderly and planning for Community Integration and Sustainability so that a compassionate and inclusive environment for the users can be designed will be the main focus. In order to gain a comprehensive understanding of an elderly facility and its development, an exploration was conducted on the needs of the older generation as well as how to provide for those needs, what are the basic liie styles ard activities and what kind of functions does the users wants to make the part of the designed facility. Important considerations are the growing population of people age 65 and over, usable building amenities, practical layouts for living areas based on safety practices for the users as well as the nodes and interaction zones that will be formed due to the presence of interlocking spaces between the modular units, habitable for the elderly group. Need for sense of neighborhood in community must be present so that a living space with hygienic, secure and physically comfort environment can be formed. Promotion of leisure and education and providing outdoor green area for activity based on lifestyle of users will be carried out. Spacious and comfortable common space for chatting and playing will be formed for seeking and transferring of knowledge from one group to another. The presence of circulation patterns along the modular units will be dual natured, i.e. used for movements and activity generations. » Site for the project is present on the outskirts of a city (Rawalpindi) near river SAWAN zone reason being the seclusion from the city so that a healthy and relaxing environment can be provided to the users consisting of all the basic needs and activities. A site away from the hustle and bustle of the city life and presence of pollution free environment for the users as to provide them with the ideal living conditions considering their age group. The growth pattern that exists in the specific region and surrounding also sets an architectural language and it is up to the design consideration whether to follow it or not. The presence of site within or close to existing fabric with familiar place, people and mood allows for creating an environment which is not alienated for the users and familiar living conditions are provided but overall design is inclusive in nature.
