Abstract:
As the world progresses toward the “Global Village", communication has begun to play a
more vital part in the lives of people than ever before. The eve of the 20th century saw
humans conquering space using high-tech communication through satellites; it gazed in
awe as man broke the sound barrier in an effort to shorten the distances; it witnessed the
creation of the internet and the email era, which provided the cheapest and the fastest
communication in history. The next logical step in the evolution of massive
communication is a move towards the decentralized Mobile Ad hoc Networks. This
provides a more efficient mode of communication over wide networks.
The basic idea of these networks is to make each node responsible for managing signals
that it receives and routing them. As the network of users grows, the network
performance should improve rather than decline. However for this idea to work, each
object forming the network must have ample processing power to be able to manipulate
large databases, store them in memory and carry out extensive and complicated searches.
It is with this in mind that we have undertaken this project. Our programmable processor
is an effort to provide more processing power to devices that must perform such data
manipulations.
