Abstract:
Conventional communication systems use hardware components for signal
modulation/demodulation, filtering, encoding, spread sequence etc. This increases
the complexity and size of a system as the implementation of each additional
communication standard requires a dedicated hardware. Software Defined Radio is
an emerging technology which removes these limitations and provides future proof
solutions to the wireless networks making them very flexible.
The objective of this project is to develop a prototype wireless broadband modem by
using the concepts of Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology on a FPGA
platform. The user will be able to interact with the modem using the Ethernet
interface to select the parameters like modulation scheme, encoding scheme,
frequency, etc used for communication. The proposed reconfigurable platform will
allow the user to change different parameters of a wireless standard, to switch
between different wireless standards and to perform real-time testing of new
standards without the need for additional hardware.
