dc.description.abstract The “Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS)” is the decision making module of the project “Remote Patient Monitoring System”. It is responsible for providing the experts with the correct classification and rules to predict the condition of a patient. Clinical decision support system (CDSS) is a computerized program which analyses the patient's physiological data (e.g. ECG, Heartbeat, body temperature etc.) in order to find out symptoms of any abnormality. These symptoms are used by the CDSS to estimate the current health situation of the patient. The decision support system is also capable of making decisions based on the diagnosis of estimated health situation. This requires complex artificial intelligence algorithms and techniques to check various attributes of the current patient and give an output after classifying it according to the records of previous patients. Initially a feature selection algorithm selects the most important of the features. Only these features are used for classification purposes. This considerably reduces the computational cost of classifying. A modified classification algorithm that has been developed specifically for this purpose is then used to classify the current patient and give the result. The classifier also provides human readable rules that were used to classify the patient. CDSS is also capable of predicting the stage of disease of a patient using the “Severity level analyzer” module which is an innovation in itself. Furthermore, the “Hard coded checks” specially incorporated to involve medical experts’ opinion in the decision making makes the classification even more efficient en_US
