dc.description.abstract |
Network Management is a highly demanding task because network administrators face urgent
requests to solve the network problems. Unfortunately, network administrator can be present at a
location from where it is not possible for him to perform the tasks related to network management.
To solve this problem, we have developed an SMS based solution for network management using
GSM technology. This project focuses on description of architecture for development of software
application for managing the network. It gives the administrator utility to view the network status on
his mobile screen at any time from a remote location using SMS. He can also send commands to
server using SMS which get executed on the specified clients and feedback is sent back to the
administrator.
A proper security system that uses up to data software that is aware of all the recent happenings in
the Data Centre and it provides a more vivid picture to the administrator monitoring the Data
Centre. With a little hassle, solution can be translated in to real world system with the use of good
software system, which will mean a more secure data center facility where all critical errors in a
network are instantly reported and properly taken care of.
Mobile Network Management System is developed to not only monitor but to manage a large
distributed data centre from any remote location. The technology used consists of GSM messaging
which is available in all mobile phones. AT commands were used to send and receive messages
from prescribed numbers and locations just for security purpose which made the server capable
enough to monitor the resources of client like cpu usage, disk usage, running processes etc. It will
be helpful if up gradation of hardware is required at the client side by monitoring them from a single
location. In case of presence of a bug or if predefined critical stage occurs at the host while
monitoring, SMS is generated by server automatically and the administrator is notified even if he is
not physically present there. Server is made capable enough to receive sms, transform incoming sms
into executable command and sends the result of execution back via sms. |
