Abstract:
Health has always been the top most priority of developed countries as well as the third world
countries. Unfortunately, in Pakistan health is not considered as the subject of prime importance.
Every day a lot of people lose their lives just because they couldn‟t be provided help or rescued on
time. A solution is proposed for wireless monitoring of human health, by development of a portable
health monitoring device and a server end application. The portable device is based on an ARM
processor, GPS receiver, GSM module and indigenously manufactured sensors (temperature sensor
and pulse oximeter sensor) for acquiring health parameters. These parameters (temperature, pulse
rate and oxygen saturation) along with location of the person are transmitted to server via GSM.
Server end application processes these parameters and decides the health status of the person
indicating the location of the person on google maps. The health status and location can be inquired
directly from server or by utilizing the SMS service. What distinguishes this system from the
existing systems is firstly the use of multiple parameters for reliable and authentic decision making
and secondly its portability. The device is specifically useful for armed forces, law enforcing
agencies, workers in chemical factories and plants, or any other sensitive to health organization,
where human life may be at risk.
