dc.description.abstract Ever since the advent of the World Wide Web (the Internet), researchers in the field of Computer Networking have been in search of new and innovative ways to make networking more efficient, reliable, secure and fast. The amount of data in the world is increasing exponentially over the years. We have evolved from 14.4 kbps internet connection speeds to internet connection speeds in the range of hundreds of megabits. We need even faster means of communication over computer networks to support the transfer of such huge amounts of data. We need our networking equipment to be bandwidth efficient and with induced intelligence at runtime that can dynamically balance packet routes based on information deduced from ongoing traffic. In this scenario, we propose the idea of Application Aware Routing which supports the routing of packets on the basis of their OSI Layer 4-7 features i.e. Protocol and URL. en_US
