dc.description.abstract |
In smart grid, fast monitoring of the power system is compulsory for fast control actions. Fast monitoring is achieved using synchro phasor or PMU phasor measurement unit in the power network. As cost of phasor measurement unit is very high and its installation cost is also high, optimization is done in terms of planning of phasor measurement units in finding their optimum location for whole power network observability. In this thesis, optimal phasor measurement unit position is found for normal conditions as well as for N-1 contingency. Binary integer linear programming BILP technique is used to find optimum places of the phasor measurement units. Influence of zero injection buses ZIB in the power network is also part of the thesis which helped in further reduction of total PMUs and their cost also. The optimal phasor measurement unit location is found for IEEE 14 bus, 30 bus, 57 bus, 118 bus, 145 bus, 39 bus system of New England, 2383 bus system of Polish and developed algorithm will be used for solving optimal PMU placement for Pakistani national grid. Results show that the approach used in this thesis is applicable for long as well as short networks in electrical grids. |
