Abstract:
This investigative study analyses the food security situation of Pakistan in accord with the latest indicators of food security (as given and developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) over the time period ranging from 1990-2014. The study further analyses the trends posited by these indicators in order to reach conclusive results regarding as to what the ground realities are for the food security situation in Pakistan and makes use of other sources such as the Pakistan Economic Survey (various issues) to support its findings. The study’s findings conclude that the main issue regarding food security in Pakistan is one based on the last three indicators of food security .i.e. accessibility, stability and utilization. The study provides some basic yet concrete policy recommendations that are necessary to bolster the food security in Pakistan. It further sheds light onto the recent case of Tharparkar as an example of the food security problems of Pakistan.
