This research analyses the willingness to pay (WTP) for environmental goods, more specifically improvement in water services, solid waste management and sanitation facilities (which is an important Millennium development goal) in Pakistan over a period of 10 years, from 2001-02 to 2011-12. This study also evaluates the relationship of WTP with incidence of diseases such as diarrhea and malaria. Examining the various determinants of WTP for improved water services such as education, distance from water source, gender and income this study concludes that awareness about various health issues and distance from the water source are the key determinants in encouraging households to pay for better quality water. |
