Abstract:
In Pakistan we lack a traffic monitoring system which is important especially in circumstances of emergency. Many work hours are wasted, many people lose their lives and many miss important meetings, busses and flights because of these tremendous traffic jams on roads. To solve this problem we have implemented a GSM based traffic monitoring system. A webcam is interfaced with X86 architecture based kit and through image processing number of cars are detected. To monitor traffic, camera takes snapshots from particular directions of a traffic junction or crossing. MATLAB is used to interface the junction system with GSM Module for sending messages to the server. One way of accessing data is user asking about traffic condition of certain junction. For this purpose user will send a message with a code or name of that junction to the server. Server will match that code with the stored data and will reply with the data of that junction to the same number. The data canbe accessed using functionality as simple as an SMS or by using an android application which is being developed as part of this project or by webpage.
