Electronic media has made tremendous gains over print media as a major source of information for the masses. TV news channels use a number of different methods and techniques for news reporting. News reporters perform reporting through Digital Satellite News Gathering, voice reporting, or through video footage. The existing methods of reporting have different flaws including the use of expensive equipment, heavy machinery, time-consuming methods, inability to work in war affected and calamity-stricken areas, and dependence on a non-linear editor. These problems are rarely addressed by researchers. In this study, we proposed an android application called the EyeReporter that attempts to remove these flaws. It provides video recording, video editing, and video transmission facilities to the news reporters with efficiency and ease. The application has been tested by news reporters of ten popular news channels of Pakistan. The tested results show that the news reporters were satisfied with the interface and the facilities provided by the EyeReporter. The application reduces the cost of reporting a news item, saves time, avoids non-linear editing, and can be easily used in war affected and calamity-stricken areas. |
