Abstract:
Due to congestion of frequency spectrum and growing financial concerns, the subject of smart antennas is beginning to enjoy immense popularity thanks to current exponential growth in all forms of wireless communication and sensing. This rapid growth has been facilitated by advancing digital signal processing hardware and also by the global interest in wide band wireless applications. Many in the wireless communication world are hoping to utilize smart antennas to boost capacities, efficient utilization of band width, increase signal to interference ratios, mitigate fading and improve MIMO communications. Many in the defense community visualize utilizing smart antennas to help facilitate secure communication, direction finding, wave form diversity applications, MIMO radar and multi-mission operations. This project has been undertaken to improve fundamental understanding of smart antennas in the field of direction finding and discover its applications in the field of aviation.
The code has been developed in MATLAB / Simulink, mathematical modeling software developed by Mathworks, in a manner so as to aid in the understanding of smart antenna based direction finding system. Direction of Arrival and Radiation patters are programmed in MTALAB. The results of the simulation will be validated using the Motorized Antenna Kit ATT7621. It is intended that these codes can serve template for further work.
