DESIGN OF NUST CENTRAL LIBRARY

Abstract

The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) has since emerged as a leading research intensive university in Pakistan comparable to the top universities of the world. The NUST H-12 community comprises a diverse population of students of about 6000. It is for sure that this University has all those things which the students should need to have. Unfortunately, till now we don't have a Central library in NUST H-12 and what facilities we have in this regard, are not adequate to fulfill the requirements. Therefore our group has decided to design a central library for NUST H-12 near Head Quarter building. This location is very wisely selected because it is easily approachable for every student. This project "Design of NUST Central Library" is basically an effort to cover a wide range of topics pertaining to structural engineering and designing. The project work mainly consists of: • Framing of plans • Estimation of loads • Slabs design using MS excel work sheets • 3d modeling ofa frame structure using ETABS V 9.5 • Analysis and design of the frame using structural engineering software ETABS. • Manual design of staircase • Manual design of water Tank • Seismic design according to UBC 1997 • Structural drawings using AutoCAD 2007 The structural design of this building includes important components like Floor slabs, Beams, Columns, Footings, Water Tanks, and Staircase. We have followed the ACT code 2008 (ACI- 318-08) for designing. Effort has been made to use full modern designing techniques and latest codes .The project was undertaken to imply computer applications in structural engineering and to exercise over all approach of designing structures with the use of ACI code.
