Abstract:
Preservation of the evidence at a crime scene is one of the key problems faced in a crime scene investigation. Conventionally pictures are taken of the evidence and some guess work is involved while uncovering details. Doing so some of the important information gets lost and hinders the investigation. In order to overcome this problem we have designed an application that would generate a 3-d model of the evidence in the crime scene. This way the evidence would be preserved and no information would be lost. For using this application the user would be required to upload pictures of the evidence using any camera, from different angles. Along with these pictures he is also required to upload pictures of a checker board from different angles. After that our application would generate a 3D model of the evidence and display it. The user would be able to interact with this 3d model this way he could observe things that he hadn’t been able to observe previously. Since the 3d model would be a carbon copy of the crime scene even if the crime scene gets compromised the concerned party would have a copy of the scene at their disposal. This would ensure that the investigation doesn’t head off in the wrong direction due to misleading evidence planted later on by the culprit himself. This way no important evidence gets lost and the investigators would get to complete their investigation without any hindrance related to finding the evidence.
