Abstract:
Good reserves of chrome ore are available in Balochistan region of Pakistan. But
due to the absence of any available process that can convert that chrome ore into
sodium dichromate in an economic way, Pakistan has to import a large quantity of
sodium dichromate from other countries.
This report deals with the study that how we can produce our own sodium
dichromate. Different methods of the formation of sodium dichromate that are
used in the world will be discussed. And out of these processes, one process will
be selected which best matches with the conditions in Pakistan. But to make this
process more economic, there would be some modifications done as well.
One of the things that make this process expensive is the amount of energy
required in furnace. So we will try to use the wasted heat of furnace so that heat
requirement can be reduced. Also increasing the efficiency of separation
(separation between sodium dichromate and sodium sulphate) would be our goal
as well. For this different solvents and different equipments would be considered.
