Abstract:
In this modern era, huge quantity of residual are left from industrial production and municipal solid wastes which causes environmental pollution. The present study was carried out i), to evaluate the Sugar Cane Bagasse Ash (SCBA) and Stone Dust (SD) as replacement material of concrete during 2017 to cope up the increasing demand on construction material of residential and non-residential sectors and ii), to evaluate the strength properties of concrete by using cement with SCBA in the ratio of 3%, 6%, 9% and natural sand with SD in the ratio of 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% by weight in normal strength concrete using three different water to cement ratios i.e. 0.45, 0.57 and 0.68. The tests used for evaluation were slump cone test and compaction factor test and for hardened concrete tests used were compressive strength, split tensile strength, flexural strength, water absorption and acid attack tests. A decreasing trend has been observed in both slump and compaction factor test with increase in SCBA and SD in different combinations. The results of compressive strength reveal that when water to cement ratio was 0.45, maximum compressive strength was found at 9% of cement and 50% of sand replacement, while maximum tensile and flexural strength was obtained at 6% of cement and 50% of sand replacement. With water to cement ratio 0.57 and 0.68, maximum compressive strength and flexural strength was found at 9% of cement and 40% of sand replacement, while maximum tensile strength was obtained at 6% of cement and 50% of sand replacement. Similarly for samples having water to cement ratio of 0.45, 0.57 and 0.68, an increasing trend has been observed in both water absorption and weight loss due to acid attack with increase in SCBA and SD in different combinations. Hence there is a strong viability of partially replacing cement with SCBA and sand with SD in concrete for structural purposes. The detailed results are supporting for implementation of the practice in our construction industry. It is expected that such replacement of cement and fine sand will sustain natural resource and also affectively exploit a waste material.
