AN ANALYSIS OF MASS TRANSIT SYSTEM OF RAWALPINDI

Abstract

Mass transit system is the public transport system which is a very important element of our society being financially feasible, efficient and affordable system of travel. Considering the transport system of our city Rawalpindi, It generally consist of wagons, suzukis and mini vans. And which is incapable of handling all the demand and also causing congestion and pollution problems. It is because of the increasing travel demand, inappropriate route coverage, low quality of public transport, poor safety performances, low profitability, mistreatment of passengers and violence between operators e.t.c. Moreover, due to energy crises and inflation in the prices of petroleum/CNG. And increasing congestion is causing increasing demand of a reliable mass transit system. This project idea is used to conduct a reliable study of the problems and the feasible solutions of increasing the quality of mass transit system for a congested city like Rawalpindi and make it according to international standards so that a major portion of the population can get benefit from an efficient local transport facility. And we have developed an efficient transportation facility which is reliable and will drift the major population of this from taxis/private vehicles to local transport facility. It is anticipated with the implementation of such mass transit system which will consequently reduce the road traffic with efficient fuel consumption and also decrease the level of pollution and congestion. Hence overall traffic of the twin cities would improve to a considerable level as compared to the current situation.
