Abstract:
Deficient relief and varying slope lead to cost in-effectiveness and vehicular hazards. Swat MW (65±00–70 ±00) that ends at the opening of a tunnel. This 5 kilometer striphas been problematic due to elevation difference. Elevation differences have resulted into constant slopes that affect the critical length for particular speed and slope. To alleviate the elevation difference, three geometric designs of 5KM segment were accomplished using AutoCAD software and then simulated on PTV VISSIM 9 and traffic data was collected by traffic reports, comparison of the simulation results of various designs was required to find the best design. An evaluation of traffic conditions is suggested undertaking highway performance measures for improvements in traffic conditions that include capacity enhancement i.e. channelizing or increasing the number of lanes to maximize traffic progression. The suggested model is envisioned to improve the overall traffic conditions and transforming the existing facility into an uninterrupted traffic flow with an acceptable level of service.
