dc.description.abstract This research proposes to examine the role of the HR Department in the mobile service industry in the telecommunication sector of Pakistan. The objectives of this proposed research are as follows:  Assess how well human resource management is linked to the organization’s mission accomplishment;  Explore the role played by the HR department in the organization’s strategic planning;  Determine how the HR managers work with line managers to carry out organization’s strategic goals and objectives;  Identify best practices aligning HRM with the organization’s strategic goals and objectives. For the purpose of this research, the following organizations were analyzed:  Mobilink  Warid The research showed that Mobilink’s HR Department is partially aligned with the organizational mission and strategy. It contributes like any other department in strategy formulation and implementation. Despite all this, Mobilink has to adhere to the directives from its parent company, Orascom which proves to be a hindrance in strategic alignment of HR with the organizational mission and objectives. To improve the situation, Mobilink is recommended to find a way around the parent company constraint and improve all of its existing HR practices with a major emphasis on compensation and training and development. Whereas, Warid’s HR Department still has at least a step to go further to ensure an integrative linkage in strategy formulation. Most HR practices that are now well established at Warid are strategically aligned to the organizational mission and objectives, but those stemming from the Performance Appraisal and Compensation side still require strategic congruence. Thus to ensure strategic congruence, Warid is recommended to improve its performance appraisal form and its compensation practices to foster the right culture and behavior in its employees en_US
