Abstract:
The research mainly focuses on the recent development in the poultry and livestock industry of Pakistan; how it has evolved from 1970s till the where the industry was in the growth stage till 2010 where latest technology has totally revolutionized the dynamics of the industry. The economies of scale have been achieved, and are being further worked upon to reduce the costs as well. In the quest of reaching higher economies of scale, we see that different players in the industry compounding up to synergize their performance and lower costs. Players are going for vertical integration where they own their own farms till the very end retails stores as well. Also, the companies are also going for horizontal integration where small to medium sized players are grouping up to synergize their strengths into one big player in order to achieve higher economies of scale. This is turning the market very competitive, making the players find new horizons of business. This fierce competition has made small players either to group up into one big player or else they would go bankrupt due to lower economies of scale. Lastly, this thesis also predicts how the industry is changing and what will be its future outcomes.
