dc.description.abstract Gas flaring in the petroleum industry not only causes economic losses, but is also detrimental to the immediate environment. According to various estimates, 150 billion cubic meters of gas is flared annually throughout the world, which amounts to approximately $11 trillion lost almost every year. Refineries and gas fields around the world are already making the shift towards zero flaring via flare gas recovery. Unfortunately in Pakistan very few, if any, refineries and gas fields are implementing flare gas recovery systems. In a country with a huge energy deficit, moving towards zero flaring should be of the utmost importance. This project focuses on flare gases recovery system for Attock Refinery Limited (ARL). We have found various techniques for the recovery of flare gases based upon the varying composition of the flare gases. All these techniques are helpful in conserving the energy from economic as well as from environmental point of view. On the whole, energy recovery is the overall aim and best outcome of the project. en_US
