Abstract:
With a populace of approximately 180 million, the growth of Pakistan’s demand for transportation facilities stands reasonably higher than its annual GDP growth rate. As an end result, there is an upsurge in the number of traffic jams befalling on daily basis. We may recognize the lack of infrastructure as a reason for the growing intensity as shown in a report published by the finance ministry where the road density of Pakistan is at 0.32-km/sq. km (almost one-third of India), but partially the problem lies in the multitudes where there is a general disregard for traffic rules and decreasing level of tolerance.With massive migration of public in the past few years to the twin cities, traffic jams have become a nuisance. With regard to efforts made by the government and National Highway Authority with the help of Capital Development Authority, the major step for bringing in the Metro Bus Service System is not enough to meet the ever increasing demand of infrastructure as it still needs time to mature. Owing to the inadequate fiscal aptitude, the need arises to find economic and ecological solutions to meet thechallenging demand.Taking use of the space, our syndicate set out to meet the challenge of perilous road traffic congestion on the Rawalpindi entrance route via GT Road. The study area was selected to be from Zarkoon Heights to Golra Morre, a major chokepoint of all entrance vehicles, was established to be the chief problem. Unification of PTV VISSIM simulations with real time data was ensued in order to deliver consistent and reliable results. Furthermore, additional possibilities were recommended that were economically and environmentally approachable.The authors have faith that successfully implementing the proposed solutions can have a positive effect on the environment in the long run. Furthermore, this study has opened room for more research on the subject to find viable solutions to the ever growing nuisanceofroad trafficcongestion.
