Electron Beam welding (ELECTRON BEAM WELDING ) involves production of weld by striking high energy electron beam in the weld join. This fusion joining procedure has been used largely by reason of is benefits like narrow welded zone and heat affected zone, low distortion and low impurities etc. Currently the focus is on ELECTRON BEAM WELDING of Inconel 617 with stainless steel 310 by variating the welding parameters such as welding speed and heat input. For that mechanical & metallurgical characteristics of welled material have been tested.
For mechanical properties assessment, tensile strength, elongation, yield strength micro hardness tests were carried out in conformity with the ASTM standards. The metallurgical properties are observed using optical microscopy.
Inconel 617 is a Ni-Based super alloy enriched by elements like Co & Mo. Therefore, it makes a good mix of high temperature strength and oxidation resistance. A variety of application in power plants and chemical plants use these materials. Austenitic stainless steel is largely used is seasonally high temperature environments. The optimization of dissimilar welding between the super alloys and the austenitic stainless steel is highly significant due to its wide use in oil refinery converters, power plants and furnace components. |
