dc.description.abstract Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim Limited produces 1570 Metric tons per day of ammonia, which it uses to manufacture its market product, Sona Urea. An important part of the ammonia production process is the water gas shift reaction that takes place in the High and Low Temperature Shift Convertors. Traditionally, axial flow type reactors have been used for this purpose, but in recent years there has been a shift towards radial flow reactors. As the world becomes more aware of the problems related to energy production and consumption, the demand for energy efficient processes to help combat global issues such as climate change will continue to rise. Radial reactors are attractive as they promote energy savings due to a lower pressure drop, and allow the use of a smaller, more efficient catalyst with a longer lifetime, among other benefits. Our project therefore focuses on investigating the scope of revamping the current axial shift reactors at FFBL to radial shift convertors, with a focus on the benefits in terms of process efficiency and costs. The project will also discuss the mechanical modifications that would be needed to be made to the current reactors at Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim Limited to retrofit them to radial reactors. en_US
