Abstract:
Geo Technical properties vary from a place to another along width
as well as depth of the soil stratum. The knowledge about spatial
variations of these properties is indeed very helpful before
executing a construction project. Therefore, this paper attempts to
present an innovative computational based approach of mapping
geotechnical properties of Risalpur Cantonment with the help of
Geographical Information System (GIS). Soil samples collected
through Standard Penetration Tests and Core Cutter Method at a
depth of 5 feet were later tested in MCE Soil Laboratory to
determine various soil properties including Atterberg Limits,
Bearing Capacity etc. Thereafter, calculated results along with
their precise coordinates i.e. Latitude and Longitude were used to
prepare Digital Soil Maps (DSM) using Inverse Distance
Weighting (IDW) tools available in ArcMap / ArcGIS. The authors
are of the view that this research will prove to be very helpful in
determining spatial variations in Geo-Technical properties within
Risalpur Cantonment and forms a Digital Data Base of Soil Maps
