dc.description.abstract This research work refers to propose the solution of the traffic jam and congestion which occurs on Bolan road NUST during Friday congregational prayers. During the Friday prayers, majority of university’s traffic diverts towards the Jamia mosque and HBL parking. However, due to insufficient parking stalls, both parking cannot accommodate all the traffic. So, a good number of vehicles are parked on the Bolan road which results in huge traffic jam and congestion on the road and reduce the efficiency of the road for almost 1.5hrs. In our project we have proposed the possible solution to reduce the traffic jam and increase the efficiency of the road by making a new parking on the area available on the left of the Jamia mosque. This research work proposed a smart parking system to be made which includes automated parking barriers, barrier gates, virtual camera and sensor loop. The major objective to design a parking system is to make a system that adequately handles the parking lot and maximizes the efficiency of the road and a parking system that will minimize the manual work and fully use the modern technology to operate. All the required traffic data was collected on site and vehicular flow was collected for two consecutive weeks during the congregational prayers. Parking system was developed on the AutoCAD software. This research work also aims to provide more parking stalls than the actual requirement to make it more efficient and to also accommodate the access vehicular volume due to increased population of the university because of the inauguration of new departments and technological centres. en_US
