Design and Development of Chassis for Prototype Electric Vehicle with Steering and Drive System

Abstract

All across the globe, general shift from Fossil Fueled Vehicles to Electric Vehicle is becoming more prominent by each passing day. As fossil fuel reserves deplete and fuel prices hike, advent of Electric Vehicles in Pakistan is not a question of if but is that of when. The prime and foremost objective of this project is to design and develop chassis for an Electric Vehicle and produce a fully functional prototype. The project is directly associated with the future prospect of Electric Vehicles in Pakistan. First both primary data i.e Market Survey, Experimental Data and Consultation with Experts and secondary data i.e Research Papers, Journals and Online resources is utilized to firstly create the case for the dire need of Electric vehicles in Pakistan. Once a generic concept is visualized, extensive research is conducted along with relevant calculations to define the design specifications. In the light of these specifications, a 3D model of vehicle chassis is developed with integrated components employing solid modeling computer aided design software i.e SOLIDWORKS. The model is repeatedly refined by performing both static and dynamic analysis employing Finite Element Method Tools. Next, the fabrication of chassis is commenced while the components are procured and integrated with the developed chassis. In the end, experimental testing to check the working of the developed prototype electric vehicle is performed and the results are documented.
