dc.description.abstract This report briefly describes the prevalent traffic and road conditions in Pakistan due to numerous reasons, including but not exclusive to overpopulation, inexperienced driving, low-quality roads, and lack of law regulation in urban areas. In the past efforts have been made to counter this by the introduction of public transportation and the construction of wider roads; however, this has proven to be more detrimental than beneficial to the current situation. This report proposes a new idea to combat road congestion by the introduction of a barrier transfer machine that expands a congested road by transferring road dividing barriers from one lane to the next and expanding the number of rush-hour lanes. It does so without obstructing traffic or any additional construction required. The design and analysis process consists of 3D designs of the barrier and transfers machine, motion studies visualizing aspects of the process, simulations, and a scaled-down working model demonstration. en_US
