Pakistan and especially its Capital, Islamabad has seen a rapid increase in the number of vehicles in the last decade. During this time, the automobile population increased to 12 million, with growing urbanization being one of the primary causes, some other significant causes are individuals migrating from different cities and towns towards more developed urban areas, and the increase in car ownership due to lack of public transport. Because of the aforementioned issues, there is a growth in road congestion, accidents, delays, and energy wastage.
With a capacity analysis and spot speed study of different vehicle classes at different locations, we aim to find out the existing capacity of two of the main highways in Islamabad which are the Srinagar Highway and the Islamabad expressway.
We also analyzed the influence of roundabouts on drivers’ behavior and approach and exit speeds, congestions, and traffic flow.
In this project, we concluded the speed volume relationship of the main highways in Islamabad along with congestion mitigation measures for a roundabout in the capital. |
