Abstract:
The following project is an actual scale-down model of a site (Tangir) under consideration for installation of Pelton Turbine. The project is fully supported with a mathematical model presenting optimal design for given input. Our project is fully supported with a GUI (Graphical User Interface) which can give a complete design for Pelton turbine just by the input of Head and Flow rate. Optimized design of models and there simulation based on structural analysis & flow analysis are performed as well. Pelton wheel is one of the most efficient energy production machine known with little or no negative environmental impact. Our basic aim was to create a computer code to assist in the designing of the Pelton wheel turbine for a particular site. This GUI will be used as a standalone package which can be installed in any of the computers that does or does not have MATLAB. We extracted the design parameters of our prototype from our GUI and designed the turbine for 500 RPM and 10.5 m head. This turbine is also referred as Impulse Turbine. We have considered a designed our project for maximum efficiency that can be varied by changing GUI settings. Our project is dedicated to SMME for teaching and demonstration purposes to better help the students understand the working of hydro turbines and develop their interest in the power sector.
