Abstract:
The idea of using drones for commercial purposes is not new. It has been years since drones
are being used by hobbyists for recreational purposes. In recent advancements, companies have
started to use drones for delivery of products. Many global retailers, such as, Amazon and
Walmart have started heavily investing in this technology. They have dedicated a huge amount
of investment to explore this option for delivering products.
Although, retailers view this as a huge opportunity to cut costs and lessen their delivery time,
but the customers still have a lot of questions in mind, which need to be answered, before they
fully accept this technology. A retailers’ top most priority should be to address the ambiguities
and fear that the consumer has along with researching on the technology.
In Pakistan this concept is very new, although not unknown. Many big retail stores have
emerged over time, which provide a huge variety of imported and local goods. As the drone
delivery technology becomes more common in the rest of the world, these retailers would want
to experiment with this technology as well.
The purpose of this study is to find out the major concerns that the consumers in Pakistan might
have in accepting this technology. A survey was conducted from people living in the twin cities
of Pakistan, Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The results showed that consumers in Pakistan, mostly
have privacy concern as a major issue. They believe that drones could be a threat to their
privacy and hence are a little reluctant to use it.
