Abstract:
Adolescent Coping With Depression course, is a group based psychotherapy, for the treatment of depression. It is originally developed in English by (G. N. Clarke, Rohde, Lewinsohn, Hops, & Seeley, 1999). it is based on Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and has 16 sessions. The current study consisted of eight steps and aimed to translate the manual in Urdu language and culturally adapt it according to the Pakistani community sample. Firstly, literature was reviewed to understand depression according to the local literature. Secondly, community engagement was carried out. Thirdly, qualitative assessments were conducted. Fourthly, literal translation of the content was done. In the fifth step, cognitive interviews were conducted. In the sixth step, adaptation workshop was held. The next step consisted of gaining community feedback. Lastly the adaptations were finalized. In conclusion, the results provided a manual in Urdu with cultural adaptations which can be tested for its effectiveness in Pakistani sample. It can be used as an after school program for adolescents by mental health professionals.
