dc.description.abstract The rise of digital labor platforms has revolutionized how work is performed, particularly for freelancers. In Pakistan, where the informal sector dominates employment, these platforms have provided an avenue for workers to connect with global clients and earn a sustainable income. This qualitative research study aims to explore the understanding of career progression among freelance workers on digital labor platforms in Pakistan. Through a comprehensive analysis of existing literature and interviews with 13 freelancers, this study identifies key themes that emerged regarding career progression. These themes include increased earnings, progression through seniority levels, expansion of project opportunities, and accumulation of positive higher ratings. The findings suggest that freelancers perceive customer reviews and securing additional projects as important indicators of career progression, while performance and profile ranking also significantly influence their perceived progress. The results of this research have significant implications for freelancers seeking to enhance their understanding of career advancement. Policymakers and IT start-up managers can also benefit from these findings to develop better support systems for this growing freelance workforce. By acknowledging the factors and indicators of career progression in the digital platform economy, stakeholders can facilitate an environment that fosters professional growth and success for freelancers. en_US
