dc.description.abstract This report covers the progress of the design and fabrication of an Automated Cutting Machine. Our main objective with regards to this project was to design a machine that was capable of cutting fabrics, leathers and other thin material as per the design or drawing specifications provided by the user/consumer in the form of a drawing on a software (vector plot, sketches etc.). This entailed the procurement, manufacturing and assembly of a gantry capable of supporting and handling the movement of the cutting tool in a two dimensional plane, alongside the linkage of this with a computerized software and user interface allowing for the input of the required designs. With this project we aim to manufacture an affordable and lightweight portable cutting machine at a cost significantly lower than that currently available locally en_US
