Abstract:
This document pivots around the central idea of SOx and NOx emission reduction by probing into the usage of Solar Fresnel Collectors as an alternative or to work in complement with furnace oil and electrically heated boilers. The document in itself is fashioned in a thought field pattern, where the reader is guided through the step-by-step process that evolved the project’s concept into what it is today. Through chronology is not adopted in this report, it is inherent to the field of alternative energy research and is reflected throughout the literature review.
This report at first establishes the threat of harmful emissions to the environment, then moves on to the discussion of linear vs. point concentrators. While linear concentrators prove their advantage, the discussion moves on to parabolic troughs vs. the use of Fresnel reflectors. With the fiscal constraints and the ease of manufacturing in Pakistan, Fresnel reflectors are chosen and further discussed on the grounds of optimization of the reflector geometry and field configurations. The methodology section of the report focuses mainly on lab prototype and its calculated and simulated results to understand the errors between the two while it also furthers into the concept of the final prototype as designed under the influence of the extensive literature review.
