dc.description.abstract A rapid addition of generation both conventional and renewable in the recent past years has made the Power System of Pakistan more complex and difficult to manage. Besides the unpredictable behavior of the renewable makes smooth operation of the Power system very cuber-some. There should be a spinning reserve available in case of sudden loss of large generating unit due to tripping, or due to sudden drop in the generation of the renewable, in response to the environmental conditions. To tackle all these sudden incidents, there should be a very efficient and robust optimization algorithm for Power system optimization. Therefore, this thesis focus is Power system op timization. In this research a comparison of some of the existing techniques is done, then a robust algorithm is developed, which handles both the real and reactive power generation at each point in the system. The conventional algorithms do not incoroporate the reactive power handling. en_US
